Periodontics

Periodontal diseases are mainly the result of infections and inflammation of the gums and bone that surround and support the teeth. Dental plaque is often the main cause of any gum disease, as the bacteria in plaque release toxins and/or poisons and irritate the gums. In its early stage, called gingivitis, the gums can become swollen and red, and they may bleed. The gums will eventually separate from the teeth and tartar (an advanced, tougher form of plaque) can form above or under the gum line. As time progresses, the gums and bones will start to deteriorate, which is the more serious form called periodontitis. Periodontitis may lead to potential tooth loss. Periodontal disease is mostly seen in adults. Periodontal disease and tooth decay are the two biggest threats to dental health.

Treatment may be performed by a periodontist, a dentist, or a dental hygienist. Treatment of periodontal disease can be non-surgical or surgical intervention, which are both provided at Root Dental. We will provide the best-suited treatment plan after a comprehensive exam and diagnosis.
