Dr. Shelly Xiong received her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree with honors from University of Toronto, and she has been practicing in lower mainland ever since. Dr. Xiong was born in China where she received her BSc in Biochemistry before pursuing her Master’s degree in the US. She did cancer research at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York and published in several clinical research journals.

As a general dentist, Dr. Xiong enjoys all aspects of comprehensive dental care from preventive treatment, fillings to root canals, teeth extractions, crowns and bridges. She loves to treat both adults and children. She offers orthodontic assessment to check how children’s teeth and jaws are developing, and provides orthodontic appliances or braces treatment. She is a member of International Association of Orthodontics and a certified provider of Invisalign®. She is committed to continuing education and strives to stay up to date with the latest technology in dental profession.

Dr. Xiong is passionate about compassionate patient care. Her patients have always described her as a warm-hearted, caring, and gentle doctor. She can provide services in both English and Mandarin Chinese.

Outside of the office, she enjoys hiking and skiing with her daughters and exploring new recipes.

Meet the Team

Dr. Jay Lam attended the University of British Columbia (UBC) and was conferred a Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science degree in 2009. Pursuing an interest in public health, Dr. Lam attended the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) in the Environmental Health and Public Health Inspection program and in recognition of his merits received the prestigious Dr. John Blatherwick Award in 2011. Dr. Lam then entered the field of dentistry and graduated from UBC with the Doctor of Dental Medicine degree in 2016. Throughout his career, Dr. Lam has been award various awards for his academic aptitude and community involvement, these include: UBC Dentistry Dean’s List (2013, 2014), UBC Dentistry Mike Wells Award (2013), UBC Dentistry ROI Corporation Leadership and Community Service Award (2014), Dr Bud Sipko Memorial Endowment Fund Scholarship (2014), Carlos Carrillo Memorial Community Service Award (2015), and the American Academy of Orofacial Pain Outstanding Senior Student Award (2016). Furthermore, he has been an integral part of multiple committees within his dental association, and has shown interests in international dentistry. He has been on exchange to Korea (2013) and Japan (2015), and on an oral surgery externship in New York (2015). In recognition of his aptitude for dentistry, Dr. Lam served as a mentor for dental students, and continues his services as a clinical dentist at UBC in the Geriatric Dental Program serving seniors in the community and surgical associate for the non-profit VAHS Dental Clinic. Dr. Lam has strong interests in the newest technologies within dentistry, with focus on digital dentistry, Pinhole gum grafting, laser dentistry, dental implants, and full mouth reconstruction. Dr. Lam strives to offer the most comprehensive and modern approach to dentistry, and continuously upgrades his surgical skill sets well beyond what is required. Dr. Lam travels around the world to learn from internationally renowned speakers and applies that knowledge so all his patients will have the best outcomes possible esthetically and functionally.

Dr. Lam was raised in Delta and lives in Vancouver. In his free time, he enjoys skiing, dancing, and spending time with his dogs.

Dr. Daniel Lin is a passionate and dedicated general dentist who truly believes in patient-centered care. After earning his Bachelor of Dental Surgery from James Cook University in Australia in 2016, he has been practicing in Canada since 2017. He also holds a Bachelor of Biological Science from the University of Alberta.

Dr. Lin's expertise spans various areas of dentistry, from restorative work and oral surgery to molar endodontics and pediatric care. He takes great pride in staying on the cutting edge of dentistry, and his advanced training includes completing the 1-year Comprehensive Implant Residency (CIR) program at the Bites Institute, as well as participating in live surgical study clubs. His qualifications also include Invisalign certification and a Nitrous Oxide sedation certificate, ensuring that his patients are always comfortable during their treatments. He is further certified in both therapeutic and aesthetic Botox, allowing him to address both functional and cosmetic needs.

Fluent in both English and Mandarin, with some understanding of Cantonese, Dr Lin communicates effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds. His approach is always focused on building trust, making sure his patients feel informed, comfortable, and confident in their care.

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Lin enjoys hiking, volunteering in his community, and keeping up with the latest research to ensure he provides the highest standard of care for his patients.

Dr. Daniel Lin

Dr. Yi Yang is a board certified periodontist, fellow of Royal College of Dentist of Canada and diplomate of American Board of Periodontology. She received her periodontics training from Loma Linda University in USA. Dr. Yang also gained extensive research experience in dentistry after completed her PhD study at the University of British Columbia, where now she is a clinic assistant professor and teaches part time in the faculty of dentistry. Dr. Yang lectures and teaches periodontal continue education course in China where she was trained and worked as an oral surgeon. Her goal of practicing periodontics is to provide the highest standard of care to her patients and help patients to maintain their oral health. At her spare time, Dr. Yang enjoys photographing, travelling and practicing yoga.

With over 20 years of experience as an administrator, Carol is committed to delivering excellent customer service with every patient interaction. She brings her expertise to Root Dental, where she has built strong, positive relationships with patients and fostered a welcoming and supportive environment. Her dedication to excellence ensures that each visit to Root Dental is a comfortable and positive experience. In her spare time, Carol loves exploring the outdoors, trying new foods and cherishing moments with family and friends.

Yang is a certified dental assistant dedicated to giving high quality patient care. She strives to make each appointment as comfortable as possible, assisting the dentist during treatments and ensuring all equipment is thoroughly sterilized and ready. Outside of work, Yang enjoys quality time with her family and her beloved dog and cat.

Sarita always knew she wanted to go into the dental field; just like her mom. She realized that dream when she received her diploma in dental hygiene in 2010 and graduated with honors. She has been working with our office since 2019 and has been a vital part of our hygiene department.

Sarita loves taking continuing education courses and expanding her dental hygiene knowledge and skills. She prides herself on being a gentle provider and helping patients achieve the healthiest smile possible. In her free time, she loves to travel and read.

Kim is a highly experienced dental hygienist who has been serving people in the dental field in Canada since 2000. She holds an RDH in Canada and began her dental career by earning a Dental Hygiene diploma from Gwangju Health College in South Korea in 1988, where she registered with the official licensing body under the Ministry of Health and Welfare. Kim furthered her education by earning another Dental Hygiene diploma from TCDH in Ontario. She also completed the PLAR and DHP program at Thompson Rivers University in British Columbia. When she isn't working, Kim enjoys nature walks, caring for plants, chatting over coffee with friends, and exploring cuisines from different countries.
